Finley Joy Lorrilyn Kangas.
Our first born babe who surprised us with your birth, and a journey afterwards that strengthened my (our) faith, and stretched us in so many ways. The journey’s changed roads but it’s still the same grand adventure. Oh, what a treasure you are Sweet Pea. We are so thankful to celebrate this day with you.
You are Two. That means momma and Daddy have you under our roof for at least 16 years. It’s funny how, when you are growing up time seems to go so slow as you eagerly anticipate that next milestone. Now it seems so much in the reverse to me. As I’ve grown up now and have my own little ones- your milestones are coming so quickly. My heart bursts with pride and so much joy seeing you develop, push boundaries and explore the world around you. It also hurts to realize how these moments fly by so quickly.
Oh, that I can bottle up your little sing-song voice, and remember each crinkle on your nose when you smile your biggest smile. I never want to forget how you push away the hair from your face, and gently give your sister bonks and kisses. How somedays you fall asleep holding mommy’s hand, or insist upon holding my hand while walking along, or eating dinner. These moments are fleeting. They go past all to quickly.
You have a laugh that turns heads, its contagious and joy-filled. Your cautious and independent approach to life seems to hold you back from some learning opportunites and yet also allows you a deeper perspective on people and the world as you are watching, internalizing and processing it all. While zippers have yet to be interesting, you are observing and identifying emotions and exploring other boundaries.
You are just as much a sinner as the next little babe- and one of our greatest prayers for you is that someday you recognize your sin and seek Jesus to save you from it. May your character be molded to reflect your Heavenly Fathers. May you treasure God’s word, write it upon your heart, and allow it to shape your life with truth. Protecting you with it’s love and allowing it to set you free. May you know our love for you, as a reflection of our Father in Heaven’s love for you. May you endure hardships with perseverance, grace and joy knowing they’re meant to refine you. May you never stop exploring the world and it’s mysteries and may you always enjoy the process.
You are a beautiful soul, reserved, funny, sometimes moody one minute and the next your flashing one of your goofy, squinty smiles and whispering under your breath. You are the sweetest sister, generally helpful, concerned, aware of Berit’s moods and ready to help with her needs. Sharing your time with hers is hard. Sharing your toys is hard. Sharing mommy’s lap is hard. But you’ve made more and more room for grace and love and these things will continue to get easier as you continue to learn, and we continue to learn together, the balance of our quality time and togetherness time.
We love you baby girl, you have changed our lives forever for the better and what a gift and JOY to get to be a part of your raising. (What a responsibility!) We are beyond proud and awed of you, the hurdles you have over come and the grace in which you have surpassed them all with. May you continue to shine your light. May your life be a continuous testimony to HIS unfailing love and grace.
